2Nd Fondant Cake on Cake Central

This is my second attempt at using fondant I tried a two tier I think it came out okay except I noticed the fondant had tiny little cracks all over it I think maybe because it was a little dry from working it so much. Also the cake was not to tall but it was incredibly heavy. I'm not sure how I could make the cakes lighter. My exploding stars were a little pathetic. I wonder how everyone gets the thin floral wire to stay so straight. Also how do you get colored fondant to not look dried out after rolling it out on powdered sugar? Thanks for everyone advice and tips!
