My husband had the nerve to jokingly ask for pie instead of cake for his bday!! :-)
So, I decided that I'd make a cake that looked like pie. But took it one step further and put a blueberry pie INSIDE the chocolate cake as well! (got the idea from a restaurant in Philidelphia that serves "Pumplecake"). I have decided to call mine "Picake" since it's pie and cake. ;-)

Chocolate cake, with blueberry pie inside. Covered in chocolate ganache, then buttercream fondant, and topped with blueberry pie filling and fresh blueberries.

Wow. That's crazy and amazing all at the same time! How the heck did it taste?

Basically I just took an already baked blueberry pie (at least 2" smaller than your cake pan (I tried to find a deep dish pie plate to cook my cake in but couldn't find anything bigger than a 9" so I just used my 10" cake pan). I think the pie was an 8"...really any size small enough to fit inside your cake pan with room on the sides... Make your cake batter (I just used my standard chocolate cake batter). Pour enough to cover the bottom of your cake pan (doesn't have to be too thick), then set t...

pie right into the batter. Pour the remaining batter overtop and around the sides! Bake for longer than your cake recipe normally takes! I think it was at least 15 mins longer to bake than normal. The top will look sunken and seem like it's never going to cook, but be patient, it will! And if you just can't get that last bit to cook, then take it out and you can always cut the top off a bit since you'll be icing or fondanting anyway!

Sorry it wont let me write it all in one go! Thx so much everyone! And yes, it tasted pretty good! Apple pie inside vanilla cake would be fantastic - just covered in buttercream to look like cake. The fondant looked neat but the flavour didnt go that well so I peeled mine off!
