Happy 60Th Birthday Dan

The dock was vanilla cake layered with raspberry syrup, and vanilla pudding buttercream. The fondant was a combination of flavors. I started with a regular recipe MMF and divided it in three. To one part I added vanilla candy clay, To the second part I added light chocolate candy clay. To the third part I added dark chocolate candy clay. Then I took the three and worked them together till I had an approximation of weathered wood. After I had it on the cake (which was 100 party portions) I gave it a touch of black gel color mixed with vodka. Everything else on the board is shaped of rice krispies and covered with a blend of either gumpaste and fondant mixed about 50/50, or gumpaste and candy clay mixed about 50/50. The heads of the bullrushes are chocolate candy clay, and the bird is red candy clay. The only non-edibles on the board are the stems of the bullrushes (skewers) the bar of the paddle (skewer). The stems of the roses (wire), The wires of the kayak rudder (wire and two tothpics to hold the rudder in place) and a toothpick to hold the bird in place. The grasses are rice noodles that I dyed with a mixture of gel color and vodka. My BIL was thrilled that the kayak was a near replica of his own kayak. The "sand" was cake crumbs, and the "water" was blue piping gel over chocolate buttercream.
