You did such a great job!!! I absolutely love it and it is a design I would personally make and sell...As others have mentioned, a little luster dust goes a long way...either a pearly sheen or then some color...But for this one in particular, a pearly sheen would have sufficed...As for the air bubbles in the fondant, have a needle or toothpick next to you, and prick the bubbles as you roll...By the time you're done, it'll be smooth...Happens to me all the time. Kuddos for you !!!
Perfect as is! In fact, I am at school right now at the end of class, and my students saw it on my screen and said, "That is sweet! That is so pretty!" etc. You have fans!! I'd leave it!!
That is one gorgeous cake. I really love the simplicity of it. With perfect fondant like that, it doesn't need more! I wish I could do fondant work like that.
It is beautiful. The only thing I could think of is to give the shells some color or sparkle. But that would change the beautiful simplicity of this design, but could be a more "fun" version. It looks great the way it is!
The cake was covered in MMF (2 batches) tinted with Wilton Ivory. I used luster dust to paint the rope. The seashells are made out of gumpaste using molds and real seashells as samples to work from. The "sand" is brown sugar.
Your cake looks Wonderful, Excellent, Awesome. All I would have done different is add some luster dust to the seashells. Superpearl. All in all the cake really really looks awesome. Congrats.
I love it. Very elegant. But if you wanted to have more fun, trying painting the shells using clear alcohol, gel coloring and pearl dust. Try using lots of earth tones, peaches, pinks, browns and golds. See my seashell wedding cake in my album if you're interested in example. P.S. How'd you get your fondant so smooth? I'm green with envy!!
The fondant was not easy. I used Toba Garrett's method of crumb coating (author of The Well Decorated Cake) and let that sit overnight. I had trouble with air bubbles in the fondant so I had to keep rolling it out over and over until it looked decent enough to put on the cake. Also, I made the fondant kind of thick so the bumps of the cake wouldn't show through.
