In community album: La Quinceanera
I made this cake for my daughters Sweet 16 Party. She wanted something "sweet" looking but sophisticated. This is what we came up with. It has 3 tiers, with crystal beads draped between the layers and lit with mini LED lights. The layers are covered in MMF and then coated with sugar crystals. Lots of bling and lots of fun. We had the party outdoors and the wind started kicking up so we dismantled the columns and stacked the cake for the rest of the time until the cake cutting. So that is why the pictures are different. I figured it was better to stack it then watch it fall over! TFL

What did you use to separate the tiers? Was it a special stand,, or did you use something different? I love this cake by the way!

Thank you for your kind comments. The cakes is stacked with a central cake stand that is clear plastic. So the lights could be put in the center and the beads are just hot glued to the cake board. The sugar crystals are simply applied with the palm of my hand after spraying the fondant with vodka. I tried piping gel and just plain water but it didn't stick as well until I used the alcohol. I hope that helps!
