Birthday cake for my nephew who is really into dinosaurs this year. Cake is 11x15 vanilla cake. Frosting is a mix of cake scraps, frosting, chocolate syrup and black/green/brown food color. I thought the color was a bit offputting so I sprinkled some brown sugar around to lighten it. The volcano is also a mix of cake scraps and frosting put in the wonder mold pan and in the freezer for a few minutes to set. It is covered in chocolate frosting. Inside the volcano is a shot glass that was used to make the eruption. A mixture of jello and lemon juice was added to the glass then baking soda to make the lava flow. Animals and trees were plastic and keepsakes for the birthday boy. Border is chocolate buttercream. The main comment from everyone is that it looked very prehistory!
