In community album: Round Wedding Cakes
I created this cake for a wedding shoot that a photographer and wedding coordinator put together in my area. I took these pics of the cake before I took it down to the shoot, so the coordinator said I could post my own pics! :) I LOVED how it turned out. I was given some plates from anthropology to use as inspiration and took it from there. The entire shoot was all white on white with a little pink, so this is what I came up with. After the shoot was over, and I got the cake back (it's a dummy), I took the base off and flipped it over! :) I actually like it better flipped...see attached pic. Pretty funny how a simple design change can totally change the look of the cake!!!! They are trying to get the shoot published in a couple magazines, so I'll post pics from the actual shoot on my blog after it goes to print. Thanks for looking!

This is beautiful!! I agree I like it better flipped over. It is so elegant, I can only imagine if the flower had a bit more color how that would pop!! Thank you for sharing it.

Fantastic...I also agree...I do prefer the flipped version but either is fabulous!

wow what are your ruffles made of? Is it gumpaste? So pretty and the soft pink is a perfect hue for the flower

That is absolutely stunning!

Stunning! I would love to know how you formed the ruffles!
mrsmudrash 5/1/11 at 1:09pm
The ruffles were horizontal bands of fondant. I adhered the bottom edge of the ruffles, then used my thumb and first finger to gather/pinch the ruffles as I went around the cake. It was tricky and because this was the first time, I'd do it better next time! Serious learning curve with those! Also, the fondant on the bottom tier was too thick for my liking, but since it took me so long to do it and I was under a time crunch, I couldn't redo it. Next time I'd roll the fondant thinner.
