Wizard Of Oz Cake

This cake was for a benefit auction. The theme was The Wizard of Oz. I thought what better than Toto in a basket and of course the ruby red slippers. I only said one bad word while making this cake, that was when Toto's first mouth and nose slid off the cake right after I had finished it. I had to push the head back so that I could rest the new mouth and nose part on top of the basket. I made a 16 inch square german chocolate cake for the base. I then cut a 9x13 lemon flavored cake in half and stacked it for the "basket". I iced the basket with chocolate icing then used tip #48 to make the basket weave. I made Toto's head out of rice krispie treats and used tip #18 to make pulled out stars for the hair (starting at the bottom and going all around and up). I used fondant for the eyes, nose, tongue, and ears. The shoes took some time, I cut sort of a pointy horseshoe shape and stood it up joining the ends together with water. I shaped the toe of the shoe till I was happy. I rolled out the remaining red fondant flat then stood the shaped shoes on top, trimming away the excess. I "glued" the shoes to the soles with water. I just made square shaped heels and "glued" them on. I made a bow and "glued" it on with water. I then brushed the shoes with water using a paint brush, and then put red sprinkles on the shoes. Then I made a blue and white checked fondant blanket to cover the rest of the basket.
