This is two layers of chocolate cake filled with chocolate fudge and covered in fondant. The bow is modelling paste and the writing is royal icing. I never want to cover a cake in such dark icing again! It took me two days to get to the right shade of maroon!
Nice. I can understand how hard it is to get these dark and lush colors...I've got a project comming up where I'll be needing maroon fondant...Tips? What colors did you use?
Thanks all! Godiva, I used a red powder as a base, mixed it until it was a couple of shades lighter than I needed it, then let it sit overnight to darken. The next night, I gradually added Wilton's Sky Blue for a more purple colour and finally added a tiny amount of black powder to darken it slightly. Though I understand that if you mix Wilton's burgundy with a bit of their red red, you'll get the same effect.
