Polka Dot And Zebra Birthday Cake

They asked for hot pink and green with tons of glitz as well as dots and zebra, and her initials- and this is what I came up with. I was dying for a chance to use my new sugarveil stuff so I tried it on the ribbons. Turned out so-so for a practice run but I couldn't be more pleased with how the cake turned out last minute. Lime base cake with lime cream cheese and strawberry top layer. The top was suspended on a divider with the fondant dots overhanging. Divider and base were 2" styrofoam covered with dotted fabric mod-podge'd then trimmed with sugarveil ribbons. I used rice or wafer paper to line the big bow which turned out to be a mistake since you can see it inside the bow but humidity here in Georgia was working against me that day! Learned a LOT with this cake. Dragees on the initials and I used funky tappits for small lettering as well as edible pink glitter. Black fondant is satin ice and Duff's fondants, pink and green flowers are Nicholas Lodge Tylose paste, white is MMF. Topper for flowers started as RKT ball then added flowers and black feather boa. My niece is the birthday girl's friend and she made and decorated the small boots using patchwork cutters as a surprise :)
