Love this! What is the base made of or covered with? Also, is the smaller tiers a covered seperator? I am doing a wedding cake in April and really like this idea of construction.

I cover all of my cake boards with fondant, then apply piping gel and sanding sugar. This particular cake had gold sanding sugar called gold kling ~ or something like that! The separators are 1" foam cut down on angles

Have you ever used just sanding sugar on your board? With piping gel and sanding sugar I am finding it doesn't all stick down. Is that normal?

If you cannot get it to stick with piping gel, you are not using enough. Use a generous amount and put the sanding sugar on very quickly. I then use a makeup brush (a big one) to take off the excess. HTH
