Volcano Cake

This is a working Volcano cake for a 6 year old little boy. I used the wonder mold pan to make the volcano itself. I would have liked it to be a little taller, but this worked well. The volcano is frosted with chocolate frosting and the cake with butter cream. The Palm tree trunks are made with MMF, and I tried to make the palm leaves from MMF, but they didn't work out. So I used construction paper and pinned the leaves to the top of the trunks. I hated cheating, but it was a last minute must. And the boulders are MMF and hand painted. The erupting "Magma" is melted Jolly Rancher candies with a little extra red color added to deepen the color; and then poured onto a lined cookie sheet. And finally the "smoke" is dry ice in a small plastic container buried in the center of the cake.
