Birthday cake for a nurse who works in the Cardiac Unit. His birthday just happens to be right near Valentines Day so it worked out well. Cake is red velvet covered in fondant. The veins and arteries are molded from rice krispies and covered in fondant. We went back and forth on whether to smooth over the rice krispies with buttercream first, but the fondant directly on the rice krispies made for an interesting texture.

This is really neat!!! What kind of cake pan did you use? My mom works in an open heart unit and something like this would be so fun to take up there. :D

Isnt that awesome. The rice crispies are perfect - it gives it a lifelike texture.
Was that made from half a ball cake pan?
