Guitar Hero Birthday Cake

This 'Guitar Hero' birthday cake was fun to make! We were given photos of the child's guitar and asked if we could make a cake look just like it. We used the largest square pan we had and baked a half vanilla half chocolate cake and carved the entire 29" long guitar out of it. We used almost 90% of the cake (10% lost to carving). The guitar was first covered in white Satin Ice fondant, then airbrushed red at the base, and black on the neck. The skull was made out of gumpaste, and edible marker was used to draw the details of the skull. The larger black details on the red area was airbrushed, and the smaller lines were made with edible marker. The two small satellite cakes were just left over cake pieces that we covered in black Satin Ice fondant and cut out Guitar Hero letters and airbrushed them with a silver sheen.
