Another dummy cake for some upcoming shows... Thankfully I'm knocking them out one at a time... :) I've always wanted to do a red and white cake. Finally got to! :)
very pretty... can you tell us how you did the pleated sides?? Looks like you laid the pleated fondant around the cake and then put a cirrcle of fondant on the top to lay over??? I
Before I stenciled on a cake, I tried it on a piece of cardboard covered in fondant. Once I got a feel for the technique, I graduated to a square cake... then to round.
The pleated effect is accomplished by cutting 1" strips of fondant and overlapping them around the cake. I pre-covered the top of the cake so that my pleats would meet up with the edge. This way I didn't have to worry about setting the above tier on a bunch of pleats.
