Horse Head Birthday Cake - Airbrushed

Horse Head Birthday Cake - Airbrushed on Cake Central

This is a birthday cake we were hired to make for a 33 year old horse owner. Her friends requested that the horse head cake resemble the actual horse head as far as color and white stripe. I sadly didnt take any photos of the white stripe on the head.

I learned some things sculpting the head out of yellow cake, like curve the lower jaw a bit more next time so it's not so square. Overall, I like the way the cake turned out. It was my first attempt at carving any animal out of cake.

This horse head cake was first covered in crusting buttercream. We colored white fondant slightly brown (almost tan) for a base color, covered the head and then began to layer on colors of brown and black with an airbrush. The little horseshoe cake next to it was just extra cake left over from carving the horse out of the square pan we used, and I hate to waste cake, so I airbrushed the base with an orange sheen and the horseshoe received an airbrush spray of silver sheen.
