This was for a gentleman's birthday, I have done round cakes but this is my first square pirouline cake. Butter cake with caramel filing chocolate buttercream and raffia bow.

It is very rustic and masculine, I'm sure he liked it. The only thing I might have done differently would have been to cut the cookies all the same length.

I like the look of this Pirouline cake very much. The square shape seems to do so much for it. I love the choice of bow to go with it. Hope you don't mind if I make a feminie version of it for my sisters house warming cake.

NikkiDoc - thanks for the compliments, and I don't mind at all! I didn't trim up the cookies because I wanted to make this look rustic and masculine since it was for a gentleman's birthday. If you want to soften it up a bit then ShirleyW's suggestion is a great one - good luck and let me know how it goes.
