I had wanted to try this for a while now, and my mother-in-law's birthday cake got to be the guinea pig. :) Cake is fake since she doesn't eat sweets, although this could also be done on a real cake. Cross stitch "fabric" is fondant marked with an impression mat. Frame, vines and leaves are also fondant. Royal icing stitching and leaf stems. Cross stitch pattern is from a kit that I stitched for her a few years back. Not perfect by any means, but came out pretty good for a first try!
