In: Spooky Grove Cemetery in album: Halloween
My grandson wanted a Halloween themed birthday cake. The cake is chocolate fudge and yellow cake with chocolate buttercream and mini chocolate chip filling and orange colored/flavored buttercream frosting. The figures and decorations are all made of fondant mixed with tylose. This was a fun cake to make. TFL and Happy Halloween!!

words can't describe how awesome this cake is! How long did this take?
Kaytecake 10/26/10 at 2:43pm
Thanks everyone! Shana- it took me about two weeks to make the separate figures, the tree, tombstones, and larger elements.

it's sick in a good way, amazing! can I ask question, how did you do the stairs texture? i'm making for my friend's 30th b-day making him garden cake and i can't figure it out to make the stairs. thank you in advance!

The little witch is wonderful!

Maglo- Thanks. I knew that we wouldn't be eating the stairs so I used the hard, craft style styro to add the rough texture. Just make the stairs with RKT or form them from fondant and then press the styro in a random pattern. Use more pressure on spots that you want to look aged. After they dry, dust with powders to show off the textured spots and blend. Good luck with your friend's cake and please post pictures. :D

Thank you again, everyone, for the really lovely comments! Morgana-rose- I haven't done any tutorials and I'm not sure if I could. I'm just a hobby baker and I especially love working with fondant. If you search the "net" for sculpting videos, in any medium, you can find some really good instructions on many skill levels. It also helps to search for pictures that inspire a good design. It takes time and practice but it is an enjoyable way to play with sugar. I will try to answer any questions. :D
