Red Hat cake for a 50th birthday celebration. Red velvet cake for the hat box and French vanilla for the hat. Thanks to Natalie P. and thelushcake's photostream on flickr for the great idea!
The roses were really simple. I cut out about an inch wide ribbon of fondant and then folded it in half lengthwise. Then I rolled it up until it was the size I wanted, cut the end off and flattened the back. Hope that helps! :)
How did you make the "ball" of the hat? Is there a special cake pan you used? Also what size cake pan was the rim of the hat and the size of the hat box. I'm making this for a friend of mine and want to make sure I get the dimensions correst. Thank you!??
The "ball" part of the cake is actually 1/2 of the Wilton sports ball pan and the brim is a single 9" layer. Hat box is 2 - 12" tiers. Hope that helps :) It was harder than I thought, but turned out pretty well.
