Horses For Grandma & Grandson

This cake was a good example of cake horror turning into cake succes. Actually the cake that was initially ordered, was quite different from this one. It should be all green with a forest and nature details. However, the fondant that was delivered, contained a manufacturing flaw and could not be used to decorate the cake. Not a lot of fun if you find that out in the middle of (Friday) night, knowing all shops are going to be closed until Monday but the cake has to be delivered the next morning. Terror!!! I was horrified but decided not to let this bad batch of fondant get the best of me. So I decided to make a new design with the things I had left. The horses represent grandma and grandson and are made out of chocolatefondant. All further details and decoration such as the hay, the flower, the gifts are all made out of fondant. I was quite nervos when the customer came to pick it up, but as I had remembered her telling me how much her son loves horses, that's where I got the idea so I hoped it would be ok. She just loved it! It was a big hit! I had the little horse put his feet before his eyes waiting to unwrap his gift but as it turned out, that was what her son always does. In fact, she told me she wanted to take his bithday picture that morning but ended up just seeing his hands before his eyes. Bullseye! I was so relieved! The cake itself was two layers both Vanilla Sky (own recipe kind of sponge cake) with a filling of 'think Pink'(own recipe of strawberrycream) and fresh strawberries. Thanks for looking.
