Hello Kitty for Sandra
This is a birthday cake for my DIL. This his Hello Kitty all dressed for Halloween in her Keroppi costume. She is made with fondant/gumpaste combination and hand painted on. I used Wilton shimmer powder dust to make the plaque and mixed it with vodka. The cake is covered with fondant and then painted all over in corresponding powder dust colors. I learned from this cake that one should sketch out your idea instead envisioning it in your head. I can successfully do this with my other craft items, so I thought it would work here. What I didn't consider is an 8" cake would come out 7.25" wide when using a certain type of pan and then having to carve the sides to get it all even. First off I will never make a 8" cake again. The decorating surface on top is too small. Secondly I will not use this kind of pan again and will start shopping again for decorator pans. Overall I think it came out pretty good for having to change my idea on decorating this midstream. But after I was done I think it would have looked more "Hello Kitty" if I had used pink fondant instead of red. Oh well, I have now learned that there is no such thing as a do over in cake making, unlike my knitting where I can rip out and restart if I don't like something. This will be a new learning experience for me.
