Baltimore Orioles Cake

Baltimore Orioles Cake on Cake Central

My dad works for the Orioles and I made this cake for his work Holiday Party. It is a yellow cake with buttercream, black Satin Ice fondant and orange Wilton fondant. I made the baseballs out of white Wilton fodant and used Icing color to paint the stitches on.

I was afraid of using cornstarch because of the black color. I've used other colors with cornstarch and it was hard to get the white spots off. I normally do use cornstarch, I was just scared it would be spotty.

Looks Great! I am going to be using Satin Ice tomorrow for 1st time, any tips for covering a square cake?

Tips for Satin Ice...well it seems a lot more pliable than any fondants I've used before. So it was very hard to transfer it to the cake without tearing. I had to try several times. I also sprayed my table with pam and worked with it on there. The Satin Ice was very sticky. So just try to keep things very greased.

And yes, I'm from Baltimore. I live in Harford County now, and work downtown.

Great Cake! I love the vivid colors of the black and orange together. I would have used cornstarch to roll it out on not anything greasy, That probably added to the sticky part.

I really want to make this for my boyfriends family (who are huge San Fran Giants Fans, so same colors!). My question is how did you do the multi color fondant? Is the orange a seperate strip from the black and how did you cut and blend the two colors together?
