In community album: Gingerbread Houses
This is my Gingerbread house for this year. Last year was the first time I tried doing these, and got totally hooked. The girls made them this year too. I was planning on doing a winter wonderland with tons of little animals, but found the Kandy Klay was quite the dissapointment to work with. So hard and brittle. So I only made the one little kitty. Windows are gum drops and the door is a giant hershey bar. I kept it very simple and am quite pleased at how it came out for only my second one.

very nice! your roof is totally cute! did you use ice cream cones for our trees?
    SheilaF 12/4/05 at 3:17pm
Yes, those are sugar cones for the trees. I did those while I was waiting for my walls to set up. The roof is all sweet tarts. My kids are waiting anxiously for demolition day :)

LOVE IT!!! I love the simplicity of the design. It's not overstated but absolutely adorable. And the wreath is such a great idea on the chocolate door.

I love the Sweet Tarts for the roof! What did you use for the snow coverage? The Hershey bar for the door is such a clever idea!!!

The base snow is royal icing (everything white is royal icing except the few white ornaments in the trees) and then I sprinkled fresh powdered sugar on top of the ground snow to give it more of a powder effect. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip on the royal icing. I'm going to be making my first Gingerbread house very soon and this is just too perfect!

Your welcome. The royal icing sets up pretty fast, so, for doing the roof with hard candies like this, I put the icingon the bottom of each candy as I apply it, then fill in any spaces after I'm all done. Otherwise, you won't be able to get them all on there before it sets up.

This is sweet. I can't wait to show it to my daughter in law who is making her first this year.
