I made this cake for my sister is an artist and loves theater. All decorations are MMF...I used a buttercream MMF recipe form this site and it was a huge hit with everyone! This is my third cake to decorate and I thought I would attempt pillow cakes...haha. I learned a few valuable lessons!

...and what lessons are those? Inquiring minds would like to know. ;)

beautiful! is that stencil or piping on the white pillow? and how do you tilt the cake on it's side without it "smushing"?

Valuable lessons...1. Go light when using glue made out of tulose and water. 2. Not to mix too much vodka with the luster dust when painting with stencils. 3. Should have used a gumpaste/MMF mixture for the masquerade mask as it didn't harden as much as I would have liked. 4. Gold luster dust goes a LONG way so use sparingly. 5. (the most important) you might have to backup and re-create when the idea you had in your head is not working the way you had imagined. You can always sav every disaster...haha!

Thank you! The corners are black piping and the other designs are stenciled with garnet luster dust.

Oh sorry, I forgot the tilting question. I just got lucky because both cakes were heavy and neither got smushed when I decided to tilt the one on top of the other. I didn't use a dowell rod either but again, it was pure lcuk. I will use one next time.

Beautifully done! Love the colors and shading with the dusts! Great job piping and stenciling!
