This is probably one of my favorite cakes that I have done to date. The cake itself is a lemon pound cake, covered with MMF. The sunflowers are a MMF/gumpaste mixture, with royal icing leaves. TFL!
That you all so much for the kind comments! The wood effect was actually really easy. I took MMF in two different shades of brown, and a dark grey color and divided each color into several small fat logs. Then you layer each log on top of each other and roll them all together into a large log. If the log starts to get too long, simply cut it in half and stack them one on top of the other and continue to roll them. Continue this process until you get the desired look that you need. You want to make sure that
you don't twist the fondant too much, or it will begin to look more like a marbled effect. Once you are done, flatten it out a little bit, and then roll it out, trying to keep the lines pretty straight. That is where you will begin to see the woodgrain effect. Once I had it rolled, I pressed it with a woodgrain impression mat, and cut it in to strips. I hope you all enjoy!
