Oscars Party 2005

Oscars Party 2005 on Cake Central

This was my cake for a friend's Oscars party. Everything is edible! I baked the cake in a flower pot to get the shape, the film is chocolate and the reel and strip are rolled fondant. The "popcorn" is fondant as well. I sprayed it with a mixture of corn syrup, warm water and yellow food colouring for the butter. Thanks for looking.

I thought of the flower pot because it had the shape I wanted and I remembered my sister telling me about a bread that bakes in a flower pot. It baked just fine but puffed up in the centre. I left the unevenness there and just stuck the fondant popcorn to it...didn't have to have mounds of it that way.

Actually the friend was mad at first because he thought that we were bringing popcorn and he already had tonnes of it. I took it as flattery. :)

I rolled little balls of white fondant. Then I rolled out some more fondant flat. I cut out a bunch of the little flowers from the Wilton plunge cutter set and then plunged them into the balls of fondant. The plunger pushed into the ball and they stayed together that way. Then we misted the whole thing yellow food colouring mixed with corn syrup and warm water. I didn't make tonnes of popcorn, I left the hump on the cake so that it was raised in the middle. Let me know if you need further clarific...

I didn't line the pot - just used cake release but it ended up a little dry and floury in the pot so I think I would line it next time.
