This is a buttercream cake..my first using Sugarshack's icing and smoothing technique. I still need a lot of practice. It is about 8 inches tall. The royal icing freehand piping matches the couples wedding invitation that my daughter created. I loved making the black and white fantasy flowers. They seem so current right now. I still prefer the ease of fondant but will continue to practice, practice, practice.

Love the flowers, the design, the height - just added to my faves. Did you use a layer of cardboard between your cake layers (how many did you have?) and/or any dowels inside the cake to support such a tall cake?
samiam22 6/15/10 at 3:37am
I used bubble tea straws and a center dowel for support.

I forgot .i had baked 3 8 inch cake layer ( depth 3 inch) torted in half and ended up using 5 of the layers. I was scared to add the 6th layer. It was getting too tall. Thanks again.

Can you please share how you did your flowers? Did you use a cutter?
samiam22 6/16/10 at 7:17pm
The flowers were made with a gumpaste centre. I then took the FMM 5 petal rose cutter and frilled the edges of a 50/50 fondant gumpaste mix. On top of this I added a layer made with a 5 petal blossom cutter from my Wilton gumpaste kit.I then added the black center and placed all 3 peices into a mini cupcake pan to dry lined with saran wrap ( cling wrap). After they were dry I added spots of black royal icing to the centers. HTH.
