This cake was the first time I'd decided to enter a contest. I'm a self taught decorator all the way and I've learned everything through trial and error, the latter being a BIG part of my journey. This cake was going so well and then I turned my back to get more icing and SPLAT. His head fell off! After a minute or two of wondering what to do, I decided to just scrape off the old head and bake a new one. Lesson learned: too much icing on a sphere shaped cake WILL make it fall apart. On the second one I didn't do a dirty icing layer and he held up just fine.
