I kept wondering the same thing too! I really didn't think this was cake

I gotta ask: was this really CAKE? I've never seen a cake so square looking nefore and I can't even see any supports for the buggy. If this is cake then bravo! You'll have to share the process and any construction photos. WOuld love to see how you pulled it off :o

OOPS.......AND IT IS AMAZING......

Thank you for your comments. The main section of the carriage is pound cake covered in fondant. All the pieces attached such as the siding, the canopy, all the gadgets etc. are made from gumpaste. The horse is made from a gumpaste/fondant mix. I did use a wire support system in the horse. The support system for the carriage is hidden right behind the tires. I used dowels screwed to the cake board and the tires are not actually supporting the cake. It wasn't a big cake, serving maybe 4. .

hmmmm.... I see you just joined cakecentral today "wrightbride", so welcome to the community. Did you know the cake decorator or see the cake before the competition? You seemed to be pretty confident in your caplocked response that this was a real cake which struck me as a little odd.... no one is trying to offend the artist but honeslty when you look at the photo it doesn't even look like fondant and when you look at the other cakes submitted by the user it doesn't seem to mesh. I was just cuirious.

Hey there! Wow, this was only a 4 serving cake? Looks a lot bigger than that from the photo. I would also love to see some construction photos! When I saw it in the contest gallery days ago I thought it was styrofoam or something. How did you get the fondant texture to look like that? Well good luck in the contest

I have been doing cakes for 8 + years. I do not appreciate being called a fraud. I have done more cakes than I can count. What do you think the seat inside the carriage is sitting on?? Yep, that's right.... CAKE. The siding is GUMPASTE done in several different pieces, dried hard then placed onto the side of the cake with icing. Oh man, those silver rods that go to the horse are actually very thin dowels and I colored them with silver, so I guess THOSE aren't real. I

I have put but a couple of my cakes on here. I don't put many at all because this website is overloaded and you can't possibly find cakes easily. I should not have to defend my work. I have seen countless things on here that I question the authenticity of but have NEVER made a comment that I thought inappropriate. I do NOT appreciate it done to me!
cha-cha-cha 5/11/10 at 5:27pm
p.s. HOw did you make those little white gauges? they actually look like glass gauges.. Did you use isomalt or something?
sdowe 5/11/10 at 5:30pm
twest: no one is calling you a fraud, obviously this is getting out of hand.
TWest 5/11/10 at 5:41pm
cha-cha-cha... the gauges are just cut out circles of white gumpaste. I let them dry then hand panted the #'s and such with gel coloring/vodka.

SDowe - an expert I see since May 2010 - you obviously aren't very bright.....don't know a cake when you see it or stop and think that since my nickname is "wrightbride" that I obviously changed my nickname. Or perhaps when you do see a true talent you dont know how to handle it. I have seen this young ladies cakes win Best of Shows.......get off the computer being so mean and get out in the worlkd.....shame on you for your uglyness!
wrightbride 5/11/10 at 5:46pm
and if this is the way Cake Central lets people comment and be ugly then I do not want to be a part of the "community"

TWest, I am sorry to see what you have been subjected to here. This site is not always full of nice people but there are plenty of us so don't give up on CC. Your work is incredible and people questioning its authenticity just reinforces that. It is SO good, they dont believe its cake!?! ...best compliment I can think of  No you should never have to defend your work but you should be very proud of what you have accomplished. I am sorry for the nastiness of some but the rest of us would love to..
steffla 5/11/10 at 6:05pm
continue seeing your work :D
TWest 5/11/10 at 6:41pm
Thank you so much steffla, that really means a lot. I have been just so sad over all of this. It's nice to have a friendly comment.
