Wjat is your yellow background icing? Is it Buttercream? If so, how in the world do you get it so smooth?

Yes its buttercream, I just use the paper towel method!!

I made them buy hand and painted them with paste colors and vodka mix, and then finished with a food marker in black!

Use only Viva, ice cake as usual, lay paper towel on cake and gently smooth with a fondant smoother!
