Made this for my son's 6th Birthday. Inspired by many here on CC. Caramel cake (Thx to MacsMom!) filled with Milky Way filling. Iced in Chocolate Whipped Cream. Treasure chest is 100% edible! (chocolate, fondant, marshmallows) Added his Playmobile Pirate toys, paper sails on dowel masts, toothpicks & skewer rails. Crows Nest is ice cream cone covered in chocolate. This cake was SOOOOOO much fun to make!

Amazing! Will you share the recipe for the Milky Way filling? etr2002@bellsouth.net

Thanks everyone! :) The milky way filling I just kind of made up - used a vanilla mousse filling w/chopped up milky way bars, and added a little butterscotch pudding mix (1-2 tbsp?). Was WC based, just sort of made it up as I went! :)

Wow!! Looks awesome! Icing and filling sounds great, how did it hold up with fondant?
djs328 3/23/10 at 9:57am
MissRobin: no fondant on the cake, only the treasure chest. :) Decos on the cake are chocolate. Ships wheel is gumpaste, (which did get soggy, b/c I didn't let it harden completely...last minute as usual! LOL!) Thanks so much for all the kind words... :)
