The ship is all cake covered in fondant, the sails are wooden dowels covered with fondant , the pirate is made out of fondant.I used a gumpaste tool to make the markings of the wooden planks and irregular lines to give the look of wood and then I painted it with brown gel diluted with lemon extract and blotted it with a paper towel (that gave the "old wood" look.When I made this cake I looked in cake central for inspiration and I followed someones suggestion on how to paint it so thank you!
