In album: girl-birthday
Okay first let me start with a few disclaimers (grins):
1. I am not a fan of the Bratz, but when your stuck in the 1/05 blizzard in Long Island, and your family requests that you make "one of your great cakes for your cousins daughter (who is fabulous by the way and the sweetest girl you could ever meet), and you are trapped because flights have been cancel to take you back to California where only an infrequent earthquake can trap you...well what can you do...
2. I only made the Bratz girl image.

My cousin made the cake. The party was the following week, I recommended that they make the cake so it would be fresh. I have sent her a set of Magi-Cake Baking Strips so her cakes will be more even in the future. Okay disclaimers finished. I have to say apart from subject matter I am really proud of this image. AGAIN sorry, it is made with a variety of colored chocolates, piped onto plastic film over a poster of the image. This is the most detailed cake image I have made. I can now say that you re...

Wow, thanks guys!!! I did just mix colors. BTW, they have a craft store called AC Moore there and they use a chocolate brand and supplies called Make-n-Mold http://www.makenmold.com/melt.html great stuff! I was really excited about the shading on the sides of her face, I just used a plastic bristled brush and just created the thin layers of brushed chocolate. I worked! I really can now say there isn't a picture you cannot replacate with this method. So fun! Oh and skintone is make-n-mold peanut b...

Ok. I taped a poster of the image to a cookie sheet. I covered that poster w/ plastic film, needs to have a decent thickness. Using piping triangles filled w/dark chocolate I traced the outline of the image - all the black lines, then fill in with the colors. Once the chocolate cools takes just a few minutes in fridge, you can flip it over (TAKE CARE It breaks easily, I cover the back w/another layer of chocolate). The underside will be smooth and shiny now place on cake.

I am trying to figure out how to do a BRATZ cake for my neice. New to decorating. You used chocolate - not frosting - to make the picture?? Never heard of that. Are these the chocolate disc like things for candy molding?? I would love to know how you did this.
karthurs 7/6/05 at 2:02am
They are exactly those chocolate discs you see at the craft store, both Wilton & Make-n-Mold make them. Place the image to be copied on a cookie sheet tape it down. Place over it heavy weight celophane(not clingwrap, but like clear plastic sheeting) & then with melted chocolate in paper coronets you trace and fill in. I do the outline first. Then place in the fridge for 10-15 min. And you will have a hard chocolate image. Gently flip over onto the cake. Bottom of image is smooth & shiny for top.
