Penguins

My 6 year old daughter helped make this cake last year. We made it last minute, so it could have been a lot better, but we did have a lot of fun doing the penguins. The cake is iced in buttercream, then sprinkled with sugar crystals and powdered sugar. The trees are royal icing on pretzel rods. The igloo didn't come out very well as we made it from marshmallow fondant and it kept collapsing. Now I know about gumpaste, so I would use that next time instead.

The aunt we made this for loves penguins, so we also made penguin deviled eggs and penguin olives. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pics of those; they were really cute though. Fort he eggs, we just sliced black olives and used them as wings and whole ones for a head, then some carrots for the feet/beak. If you do a google search on 'penguin olive' you'll find lots of images and instructions.
