Thank you for viewing our cake. This cake was done for a very special lady who was turning 50 years old. This was a fun challenge as one of the techniques used is that of overlapping icing. It is a fun cake that can be used for basically any occasion. If you have any questions about this design, feel free to e-mail me. Thank you again and Enjoy!

Is the black rolled into the white fondant or laid on top of it? The color combo is striking. Thanks for sharing.

gorgeous cake! imo...should have been 1st place.

Thank you mama and dailey :-).Mama to answer your question...I roll the white fondant until it is a little less than 1/4 of an inch thick, then I place the black fondant cutouts over...these have to be rolled super thin or they will separate from the white icing. Then I roll them together and that is how I get the zebra shape to look like that.TIP:Place your zebra black cutouts in a circular way.You could use a small plate to place the cutouts around so when placed over the cake these appear on the sides

Thank You to everyone and all your messages! I did the red by cutting it prior placing over the middle tier. I took the middle tier's cake pan measured and did the design. Then lay it over just like you would to cover a fondant cake and smooth over. Hope it helps! ;-)

For the black what you do is you cut it in stripes but not uniform stripes...free hand cut stripes with some movement. Then you place over the white fondant and roll together. The technique is called "inlay technique". I use it two to make two tone flowers. I did this technique in an upcoming Food Network cake Challenge. It should air in April. I used it there with three colors. I will try to get some pics to download. Happy baking!
