Inspired by the many great penguin cakes on CC and wanted to try making one for my grandkids when they came for Christmas on the 27th. My first attempt at making figures and it took a long time to make those tiny things. It's their little family, my son Jason (red ear muffs), Michelle, Ryan (green) and little Ashley in pink and that's grandpa in the pond. Everyone loved it and the cake tasted great too. Dark chocolate fudge cake with mint flavored Bettercreme filling with Andie's Candies bits (tinted green) and iced in buttercream. Cake is covered with fondant. Snowballs, snowflakes, pond and border are fondant, figures and tree are gum paste (my first tree), dusted with pearl dust. They took the little penguins home and they are still sitting there on a plate on the counter - cause they are just to cute to throw away.
