In community album: 2009 Holiday Cake Contest
This is a Sharon Zambito design, that I modified slightly. This is the first time I used buttercream, and I followed along with Sharon's BC video, and I think the result is pretty good. The only thing I would have done differently was to crumb coat the cake first. I didn't do that, because Sharon didn't do it on the video, but I think I would have benefitted from a crumb coat. The cake is chocolate, so it was difficult to keep crumbs under control. The loopy bow was also my first attempt. I'm pleased with how it turned out. TFL!

Christmas Package

Fantastic job. I have ordered the diamond impression mat and buttercream dvd from sugarshack, will be here in a few days. your first time doing buttercream, looks like a pro.

I think you did a beautiful job. I also have the DVD, but have yet to try this. Was it difficult to work with the impression mat? Did you make the bows out of gumpaste or fondant/tylose mix? :)
