French Vanilla cake with buttercream icing. Gum paste flowers and Easter eggs. Royal Icing handle. I placed best of show with this cake at the Illinois Duquoin State Fair.
Ken...I'm a little late seeing this cake. I appreciate the realistic colors in the weave. I love basketweaved icing ~ and this is my new favorite look. The handle still has me puzzled. Read your direction on the other cake pic.....am amazed that it looks continuous.
I piped the handle onto parchment using royal icing. I drew the outline of the handle first. Piped the icing over the drawing, let it dry for 24 hours. Turn it over then pipe the other side of the handle making it look like a continuous rope. I cut holes in the cake almost to the board into which the handles were ancored.
