In community album: Retirement
Inspired by Amy Butler fabrics, I designed this knitting bag cake for my Aunt's Retirement party. It is 5 layers of mudcake carved from 9" layers. I used two pieces of fondant with black chocolate modeling clay piping on the top and covered the front and back in two pieces. All the black is modeling chocolate including the hand cut flower based on one of her collections. All the contours of the cake were carved and then the rope was placed just in the openings where I poked the holes. A fun cake to make, but the carving part was tough...however, I'm really happy with the results! TFL

I used a small extruder gun to do the string/yarn. My husband had to help me at the end because my hands hurt!!!! It took me about 20 min to cover each ball! I covered them in three sections of "yarn".
