Geisha

This cake was inspired by Japan. Japan as a "location" or 'Place" to me that is symbolized by the Geisha. A living, walking work of art. The discipline and attention to detail of all they do in life encompass all the Japanese as a nation exude. The "cake part" was the body of the geisha as well at the rocks. I covered her in layers of fondant to create a kimono. Various color, embossed and painted. . The feet, hand modeled fondant.. The Parasol was a piece of pastillage cut and dried, then hand painted. The handle and ribs were added lastly and then attached to the body. The hair was hand moulded black fondant attached and then slashed to create a "hair" effect. The flower and ornaments made from gum paste and attached. The lantern, moulded from gum paste. The rocks were cake covered in Fondant and then air brushed and patterned with a sponge. The tree:the trunk and primary branches were a central core moulded of gum paste and wires then slashed to create a bark effect . All the other branches were wires covered in gum paste. Left to dry and then air brushed. I then attached all the blossom afterwards. The Board "gravel" was covered in rice I broke down in a blender.
