In community album: 2009 Spooky Cakes Contest
Red Velvet cake (of course) with cherry filling for effect when cutting. Lots of techniques were used... Head and hands were modeled with RKT and covered in and further designing done with fondant/gumpaste. Life-sized body is all cake covered in Fondant. Blood is corn syrup with red food coloring. Luster dusts (greens, black, brown, silver) were used on hands and face for that "just came back from the dead" look. Hair was a type of rice noodle that I airbrushed with silver LD. "Brain" is fondant and "blood" and the "veins and bones" in the hand were done with fondant/gum paste and red string licorice . Hands were motorized so they slowly moved up and down and shook. I cut up a real shirt and used the lower sleeve and cuffs so the hands could move freely. Believe it or not, this was for a wedding. (The colors of the suit matched the groom's). The couple are very much in to horror flicks.
