This cake was for my mom's birthday, coconut flavored and I wanted a really creamy coconut filling between the four layers of cake. I did not count that really creamy filling did not go well with really hot weather. While transporting, the filling became thin and the layers slid off. It was covered in fondant, but a very thin layer (ran out of fondant) and it was weakened by the heat and humidity too. We ended up serving dollops of cake with a large spoon, but there wasn't a crumb left, so I guess they liked creamy coconut despite the ugly appearance.

I guess you could look at the bright side, at least it wasnt for a paying customer. Looks like it was yummy and as long as your mom enjoyed it then all was not lost and I bet she lover you for the effort. When I make cakes that have a lot of filling in them and seem like they may slid, I'll put a dowel down the middle for added support. Just a thought. :)

Thanks for all your coments and support. Yes, I should use dowels next time. I usually dowel for stacked, but yeah, I learned now. They did mention that at least it broke down sort of artistically. :D

Aww....it looked so lovely before it slid apart (thank goodness you got a photo!) - but you're right, it totally fell artistically. From the thumbnail I couldn't see anything wrong, I thought it was a cornucopia of flowers :D. Glad it was yummy!
