Butterfly Gift Cake

Butterfly Gift Cake on Cake Central

This was the 2nd cake I entered at the local fair. It was entered as a Celebration Cake. This cake took first place and best of show at the fair. It also generated the order for the 23 centerpiece wedding cakes. This was my first loopy bow and my first competition cake.

Thank you! I set them up on their sides for this cake ~ when I made the 23 wedding cakes I used poly. pipe and hung the loops over it until they dried.

the bows must made of gumpaste and not fondant right? I love how the loops stay in place! Very neat!

no, they were 100% fondant. So was the butterfly and side decorations. I used a 50/50 fondant/gumpaste mixture when I made the wedding cake bows because these were so fragile though. The 100% fondant wouldn't have worked if they'd been thinner.

Thanks! It was fondant. Emboss the fondant and cut out the wing shape then after the wings dry pipe the body using royal icing or chocolate.

very, very nice, how did you get the butterfly wings to go upward? and the royal icing detail is so gorgeous.

Thank you! The butterfly is actually molded fondant that was dried and i placed them into a piped royal icing body on card stock that was folded into a "v" to hold the wings up until the royal icing dried.

This is the most gorgeous cake I have ever seen !!! It goes into my favorite album and I hope I will be able to get as good as you are some day. I want to do something great for my daughter's first birthday and I think I found it.
