This is my third practice cake only, so there's bound to be a few flaws... like I only have one tip so the piping isn't exactly amazing (still waiting to receive the set I won on eBay). I used the "upside down icing" technique which is less tricky than I expected. The sides and top came out nice and square, overall straight, no lumps, bumps or indents.

AAAAhhhhhhh!!! Your borders are perfect! I haven't attempted those side decorations myself. You did a great job.

You do really great steady work!

Wow, that looks amazing!! How did you do the rope effect to look like a braid? Or am I seeing things?
rainbowz 10/20/05 at 9:14am
Nope, that's just rope. I guess it may be the angle, seeing it from the side, that makes the ends look like braiding into the next bit.

That looks GREAT! I particularly like your groupings of different sized stars. You definitely have an artist's eye - not overdone, perfect.

Thanks. I was following the old trick used by pro house decorators and gardeners: always group in odd numbers (3, 5, 7, etc.) not even. I'm not entirely sure that 'informal' top goes terribly well with the more 'formal' fleurs-de-lis pattern but, well... there it is.
