This was to be a wedding cake. I think I put too much frosting under the fondant. It was also very hot and humid that weekend. I used Satin Ice fondant. Does anyone have experience and/or advice to share?
Sadly but thankfully the wedding was cancelled! The bride just didn't bother to let us know.

Totally Flawed Fondant!

I am not an expert with fondant, but it also lookslike your fondant was too dry.

I had this same thing happen with my cake this past weekend....too hot and humid

Um...I hope you kept her deposit. I can't believe she didn't even tell you it was cancelled! That part is worse than any fondant issue to me. I'm sure your time is valuable and spent a lot of time on that cake. Anyhoo...check out Sharon Zambito (AKA Sugarshak's) DVDs on fondant. They're WONDERFUL! I just got them and am dying to make another cake with fondant.

it doesn't look like you put too much frosting under your fondant. That looks like a heat issue to me. You can always refrridge your fondant cakes. They come out just fine.

After you roll your fondant and place on your cake. I place them in the fridge. It helps cool the fondant and allows the fondant to tighten up as well as the BC. I like to roll out for each cake and allow them to chill before decorating. I hope this helps. :)

my 3rd fondant cake actually did this, i finished it the evening, and the next morning, while doing laundry and using the tumble dryer(making some extra heat on a summers day) the fondant started to droop and eventually teared! luckily it was a cake for family and a practice round so it wasnt too bad!

I use hi-ratio shortening in my buttercream & it holds up way better for me in the heat if I use a very thin coat. It was the heat, not you! .

Looks like the wedding and the cake weren't meant to be. Crazy coincidence! Looks like someone got to eat it though
