My first wedding cake. The colors were chocolate and champagne and because the topper was beachy, she wanted a beachy feel to be incorporated and had the idea to sprinkle something sand-like on the decorations. Being a cake lover, I watch Ace of Cakes, and used their brown sugar idea for edible sand. Hard to see in the pics, but I wet the fondant decor on the bottom tier, before I applied them, and just sprinkled the brown sugar over so it would stick. It looked pretty neat! The shells were made out of the Wilton meltable chocolate wafers in brown and white, and formed in one of the wilton molds. VERY easy, added a great 3-d effect to the border, and tasty too!! Also, because I have experienced the horror of getting a white fondant to turn a deep brown, I took the water for the mm fondant recipe, added brown coloring gel to it, thus making it a light brown base to start with. I then substituted some of that powdered sugar with unsweetened coco powder! That worked out better: tasted chocolatey and I didn't have to add nearly the amount of food coloring I've had to in the past!
