Garden Mosaic

This is my own 40th b-day cake. Inspiration came from my garden --green plants, blue sky and my favorite color, purple......the most common flower color in my garden. This was my first time making gelatin flowers, butterflies and my first time with the sugar tiles. It was a lot of work, but I loved it.

Very pretty. I soooo want to try gelatin flowers and the sugar tiles I just haven't gotten around to it. You did a wonderful job on both.

Thanks to everyone for your lovely comments. I had so much fun with this cake. I am glad it turned out well. You know, the cake in your head is always beautiful, but you have to wait until the finished product to see how your idea translates! :)

It looks really nice. I have never heard of sugar tiles. Is that sugarpaste? I love your coloring on the tiles. is there is any airbrush or metallic coloring or dust or anythig? Wow, I guess it wouldn't have been that weird to make my own cake for my 50th just last month...I just thought it would be weird to do an elaborate cake for myself for my 50th.

the sugar tiles are just molded hard candy made of sugar (3 batches) and isomalt (2 batches) and colored with just various techniques of swirling in the dye. I wanted an uneven, kind of tie-dye-ish, effect. I used disco dust on the edges of the flowers and butterflies, but nothing else. I think you should've made yourself and elaborate 50th cake!!! Who better to do it? Now I am trying to think up something amazing for my husband's 40th in November!
