This was my first decorated cake. It was for my sons 1st Birthday in 2008. I used a Duncan Hines Devil's Food Cake mix which turned out very nice and used a buttercream icing recipe from www.whatscookingamerica.com to fill and ice the cake. The animals I got were from Wilton and the clown was a made from decorators icing and the clown head was also from Wilton.

My aunt sent me this tent. It came with straws for poles and some funky lookin' animals so I decided to update it a little and this is what I came up with. I used dowel rods, covered in white contact paper and taped the red ribon on at the ends. Maybe you could google circus tent cake topper and find something like this???
