White Tiger

my brother loves white tigers, but lives 650 miles away. so i suprised him with this cake, when my son came home for a visit. i sent him home with this, packed in a styrofoam box for the long car ride, and it survived! cream cheese and buttercream mixed frosting. ears are cookies covered with frosting. nose is built up frosting. eyes are colored piping gel. whiskers are uncooked japanese rice noodles.

Is there a video or more detailed instructions on how to make this cake??  Do you think it is feasible for someone who doesn't decorate cakes that much!!  Thanks.

no, there's no video. i googled white tiger and picked an image and printed it.  i made sure it was approx the size of the cake (8 or 9 inches around).  after i crumbcoated the cake in white frosting and let it crust over, i used a toothpick to draw the outline of the eyes, nose, and placement of the black stripes. i then piped the lines in a thin line of black frosting. then i went back with a small star tip and made zig zag lines over the outlines that were for fur.  i thickened the outline of the eye, filling in the inner corner. i put a pupil in the middle of the eye. i then filled in the white fur area with a star tip in a zig zag fashion to make it look like fur.  if any of the areas looked thin, i just went over them and filled them in so it all looked like fur.  i built up the nose area with frosting so it was 3-d, then filled it in with star tip, only pulling it out a little bit.  after it crusted over a bit, i flattened it a little with my finger, because i didnt want it to look as furry as the rest of the animal. the ears are round thin chocolate cookies, that i stuck in the head and then covered with frosting using the star tip.  the bottom of the nose was flattened with my finger, then painted over with pink food color. tongue painted with deeper pink or red. whiskers are uncooked japanese noodles, i just broke off pieces and stuck them in, varying the lengths. 
the  eyes were the hardest part, and the most important. if they are not done right, the animal doesnt look right. i did them last. the background was already flat white frosting, i didnt touch it after i outlined the eye with black and put the pupil in. at this point, both the outline of the eye and the pupil had crusted over.   i colored about a teaspoon of piping gel with a tiny bit of blue (or you can use green or yellow), and put it in a baggie, cutting the corner just a tiny bit. i carefully piped the gel around the pupil, then covered it so it looks glossy over the pupil.
it's actually not a hard cake to do, it looks more involved than it really is. you can go over the fur and fill in gaps anywhere you need to. the fur doesnt really matter. its the eyes that count.  my gallery contains another tiger that is orange in color, with green eyes. good luck!
